The 2025 Comedy Quiz: The Year We Laughed, Cried, and Said Goodbye to Some Old Favourites

The 2025 Comedy Quiz: The Year We Laughed, Cried, and Said Goodbye to Some Old Favourites

December 31, 20254 min read

If 2025 proved anything, it’s that comedy hasn’t lost its nerve — or its knack for emotional ambush.

It was the year of endings, beginnings, and bold swings. Mythic Quest wrapped up its reign as one of the smartest workplace comedies on TV. Hacks reminded everyone why it’s a modern masterpiece, dropping “A Slippery Slope” — a single episode that instantly joined the all-time-greats list. Over on Prime, Upload delivered a poignant farewell to digital immortality, while new shows like The Studio kept the spirit of workplace absurdity alive.

Comedy this year managed to feel both bigger and smaller: bigger in ambition, smaller in setting — still built around people trying (and often failing) to do their jobs, fall in love, or simply survive another Zoom call.

So, as we close the curtain on 2025, it’s time to test your streaming memory. Pour a drink, open a Quality Street (insert other chocolates here), and see how much of the year’s funniest TV you actually remember.

No multiple choice this time. You can remember.

1.

Which workplace comedy was cancelled just after its fourth season aired, prompting the ending to be changed for its finale?

2.

Another comedy finished this year — Upload (Prime). What was the name of the virtual luxury digital afterlife?

3.

In one of the best comedy episodes ever aired — Hacks season 4’s “A Slippery Slope” — who were Kayla and Jimmy looking for in the Universal Studios lot?

4.

Which new US workplace comedy, shown on BBC One, was set in a hospital?

5.

In which Channel 4 comedy did Bridget Christie star as a woman escaping domestic life to reconnect with her roots in the Forest of Dean?

6.

What is the name of the studios in the Apple TV+ series The Studio?

7.

In the long-awaited follow-up to The Office US, The Paper, who is the only returning character from the original series?

8.

Where does Glen (Ryan Sampson) work in Mr Bigstuff?

9.

Which two characters almost saved the others in Brassic from falling off a cliff?

10.

Which TV series surprisingly finished after three seasons, with the main character realising she was happy being single?

🎉 How Did You Do?

• 9–11 correct: You’re the Deborah Vance of 2025 — sharp, seasoned, and still stealing every scene.

• 6–8 correct: Strong work. You’ve clearly watched enough streaming TV to qualify as a part-time critic.

• 3–5 correct: Respectable. You might not have finished every series, but you definitely read the think-pieces.

• 0–2 correct: Oh dear. You may have accidentally spent the year watching true crime again.

The Final Laugh

2025 reminded us that good comedy isn’t just about punchlines — it’s about connection. From studio floors to newsroom chaos, from gaming rigs to reimagined endings, this was the year that characters learned to evolve, say goodbye, and occasionally dance through heartbreak.

As we roll into 2026, here’s hoping the next wave of comedies bring as much wit as Hacks, as much charm as The Change, and as much pure chaos as Brassic.

Because if this year proved anything, it’s that laughter isn’t just escapism — it’s survival.

So how did you do? Surprised how much you remembered? Guilty of remembering the 90s comedies more (to be fair, it was only ten years ago). Let me know here.
